The Kansas State Assembly has embarked on the journey of pursuing legislation requiring future surgical technologists to achieve and maintain the CST credential in order to practice. This endeavor will recommend education and competency standards for surgical technologists.
Some IMPORTANT FACTS:
*Legislation WILL NOT result in job loss for current uncertified techs.*The CST credential is only earned after attempting and passing the NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist Exam. If you would like more information on eligibility to attempt the exam or have any questions, please visit the
NBSTSA CST Examinations page.
*If legislation passes
ALL SURGICAL TECHNOLOGISTS (certified, not certified, and military) working in Kansas will be required to complete 15 hours of continuing education every year. Attending assembly workshops and national conference is a great way to earn CEs, but
if you would like to apply for approval of CEs at your facility please email the KSA and we can help give you the necessary tools and point you in the right direction. CE approval is EASY as long as it's applicable!! (Word from the wise: presentations by product reps are
not typically considered CE-worthy because they are selling their item as well.)
